Erika M Wert, MD

My name is Erika Wert, MD. Born and raised in Orlando, I have lived in the state of Florida my entire life. My parents met at the University of Florida in the 1980s and sent all four of their children to their alma mater. The Wert family is loyal to the orange and blue!I earned my bachelors degree at UF as a health science major, with a concentration in public health. I then attended medical school at the UF College of Medicine. As a medical student, I was selected for membership in the Gold Humanism Honor Society and received the Society of Teaching Scholars Sustained Excellence in Medical Education Award. I completed my residency in Obstetrics & Gynecology at the University of Florida in 2024. I then earned my certification by the American Board of Obstetrics & Gynecology in 2025. I am proud to now call myself a quadruple Gator, as I joined the UF OBGYN faculty as an Assistant Professor in the Division of Academic Specialists of General Obstetrics & Gynecology for two years and now have joined the Division of Obstetrics & Gynecology Hospitalist Medicine. My special interests include complex family planning, LGBTQ medicine, residency and medical education, health advocacy, and quality improvement.

When not at work, I enjoy spending my free time painting, sketching, wood burning and cuddling my two cats, Miso and Tofu. My partner, Dr. Peter Vonu, and I graduated together and couples matched at UF – he has since graduated from the UF Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Integrated Residency Program and is completing fellowship in Aesthetic Surgery. We have also welcomed our first child, Frankie Adele, to our family – born right here at UF alongside my Gator family. We are excited to continue our professional lives and raise our daughter here in beautiful Gainesville.
