About James M Shwayder

My name is James M. Shwayder, MD, JD, and I am a board-certified obstetrician and gynecologist and an adjunct associate professor in the University of Florida Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. I earned my medical degree from the University of Colorado. Following medical school, I completed my internship and residency in obstetrics and gynecology at Maricopa Medical Center in Phoenix, Arizona.

Prior to joining the faculty at UF, I was in private practice in Newport News, Virginia, for 16 years as a clinical associate professor in the department of obstetrics and gynecology at Eastern Virginia Medical School in Norfolk. In 1998, I entered academics as the director of gynecology and director of ultrasound at Denver Health, an affiliated hospital of the University of Colorado, where I was also an associate professor. While in Colorado, I earned my Doctor of Jurisprudence degree at the University of Denver, joining the Colorado BAR. In 2006, I joined the faculty at the University of Louisville as the director of gynecology and director of the Fellowship in Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery. Subsequently, I became the vice chair of clinical affairs for this department. In 2012, I moved to the University of Mississippi, where I served as the chair of obstetrics and gynecology.

I am a fellow of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology and the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine. I have served on the board of directors for AAGL (American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopists) and AIUM (American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine). I am also recognized nationally and internationally as an expert in gynecologic ultrasound, speaking frequently on gynecologic ultrasound and medical-legal issues in ultrasound and medicine.

As a physician, my goal is to provide exceptional gynecologic ultrasound evaluation, assisting your clinician in providing the best care.

During my free time, I enjoy riding my bicycle, traveling and spending time with my wife, children and grandchildren.
