Shireen Madani, M.D.

My name is Shireen Madani Sims, MD, and my patients and colleagues call me Dr. Madani. I am Professor and Chair of the University of Florida Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Some would call me a “quadruple Gator” because I completed my undergraduate degree, medical degree and residency in obstetrics and gynecology at UF before joining the faculty in 2005. Over the years, I have served my department and the College of Medicine in several capacities, most recently as Vice Chair for Education and as the Associate Dean for Student Affairs prior to being selected as Chair after a national search in 2025.

My professional interests include general obstetrics and gynecology and medical education. In my clinical practice, I see patients for general and high-risk obstetrics and medical and surgical gynecology. My areas of interest include gynecological care of women with breast cancer and with hereditary breast and ovarian cancer genetic syndromes, abnormal uterine bleeding, postmenopausal bleeding, management of abnormal Pap tests, menopause medicine and minimally invasive surgery.

Throughout my career, I have been recognized as an outstanding physician and educator. I have been listed in “Best Doctors in America” annually since 2015 and have received multiple internal and national awards for my role as an educator. I serve on several national committees for OBGYN education, and Chair the Association of Professors of Gynecology and Obstetrics (APGO) Undergraduate Medical Education Committee (UMEC). I was selected to serve on the Board of APGO in 2025. I am a board examiner for the American Board of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ABOG). I have authored several test preparation books that are widely used by medical students around the country. As a physician, I want my patients to know that I value communication and shared decision making. In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my family, reading, exercising, and travelling.
