Kara Mia was born in Flushing, NY. She graduated from the University of Florida in 2013 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Microbiology and Cell Science. She pursued medical school at the University of South Florida and was admitted to the SELECT MD Program for her clinical years at the Lehigh Valley Health Network in Allentown, PA. This program of scholarly excellence, leadership experience, and collaborative training prepares students to become physician leaders who can accelerate change in health care. Kara Mia served as Ambassador to the Student Admissions Leadership Group at USF—coordinating events, hosting applicants, and leading campus tours for potential medical students. She worked with Project World health to participate on multiple mission trips to the Dominican Republic and was elected as Co-fundraising chair, raising more than $10,000 to support that outreach project. Her hobbies include Zumba, Pilates, tennis, playing piano, and reading. She will return to Gainesville with Richard Stratton, III, who will begin residency training in the UF Department of Psychiatry in July.
