UF Health Shands Hospital named among Best Maternity Hospitals 2022 by Newsweek, Statista

UF Health Shands Hospital has been recognized among the nation’s elite facilities in maternal care excellence, according to the Best Maternity Hospitals 2022 list by Newsweek and Statista.

Announced today, only the top 5.8% of hospitals out of thousands of facilities across the U.S. are listed. UF Health Shands Hospital was included for the first time this year.

The 2022 Newsweek and Statista rankings make up the third annual edition of the award list and are based on updated methodology, including three data sources: a nationwide online survey asking over 10,000 hospital managers and health care professionals like neonatal caregivers and OB-GYNs to recommend leading U.S. maternity hospitals; data on hospital key performance indicators relevant to maternity care, like elective delivery, infection prevention and cesarean births; and patient survey results.

“Recognizing this achievement is an exciting honor for our UF Health Shands Hospital maternity health care team. It is a direct result of the dedication, teamwork and expertise of our clinicians, physicians, certified nurse midwives, advanced practice registered nurses, physician assistants, residents, nurses, support staff and leadership that we are nationally recognized for providing the best in patient care,” said John C. Smulian, M.D., M.P.H., the B.L. Stalnaker professor and chair of the department of obstetrics and gynecology at the UF College of Medicine.

UF Health Shands Hospital was previously recognized in the inaugural U.S. News & World Report’s Best Hospitals for Maternity ranked list released in December, as the only hospital in the North Central Florida region to receive the designation for providing the highest quality of care for uncomplicated (not high-risk) pregnancies.

The Best Maternity Hospitals 2022 list goes live on Newsweek.com today (May 11, 2022). It will also be published in the May 13 issue of Newsweek magazine.
