Meet our new residents!
Sara Deatsman
Sara was born in Lansing Michigan. She attended college at Penn State University, where she majored in Microbiology and minored in Biochemistry. Following graduation from college, she worked for two years as a clinical research assistant in the Herma Heart Center at Children's Hospital of Wisconsin. She was a member of an echocardiography laboratory team that played a major role in the university's Single Ventricle Reconstruction Trial, funded by the NIH. As a result of her research in this laboratory, Sara now has co-authored five manuscripts that have been published in peer review journals. During medical school, Sara was an active member of the Obstetrics and Gynecology Student Interest Group, and she served as a student liaison for the Physiology and Pathology courses. When not engaged in school-related activities, Sara enjoys singing, playing intramural flag football, exercising, reading, and cooking. She and her husband are anxious to trade their cold-weather surroundings for the bright sunshine of Gator country.
Amanda Deming
Amanda was born in Killingworth, Connecticut. She attended Carnegie Mellon University, where she majored in Biological Sciences. After graduation, Amanda worked for two years as a health care advocate, first with the AMERICORPS program in Philadelphia, and then with the Philadelphia Women's Center. She then began her medical studies at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia. During medical school, her principal research focused on evaluation of the Health Mentors Program in the Department of Family and Community Medicine. One of her presentations was awarded the "Top Ten Poster" distinction at the Northeast Region Meeting of the Society of Teachers of Family Medicine. When not engaged in school-related activities, Amanda enjoys triathlete training, hiking, skiing, and cooking. Her partner, Steven Kane, previously matched for residency training in the Department of Ophthalmology at the University of Florida, and the couple is very excited about their move to Gainesville.
Erin (Kickie) Hare
Erin completed her undergraduate studies at Tulane University, where she had an outstanding academic record. She was inducted into the National Society of Collegiate Scholars and received her Bachelor of Science degree in Neuroscience cum laude. Erin then attended medical school at Marshall University, where she continued her superb scholastic performance. She earned a cumulative G.P.A. of 3.9, and ranked 6th in a class of 63. She was an active member of the Medical Student Section of AMA and assumed leadership positions in several other class activities. In recognition of her outstanding scholastic performance and service to the university and community, Erin was selected for membership in the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society and, subsequently, was chosen as the president of this organization. Erin participated in the couples match with a classmate, Price Ward, who was selected for residency training in the Department of Pediatrics at our medical center.
Kathryn Stinson
Kathryn was born in Birmingham, Alabama, and raised in Kansas City. She is one of four children. Kathryn completed her undergraduate studies at Vanderbilt University, where she had an outstanding academic record. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Molecular and Cell Biology summa cum laude. During medical school, Kathryn was a member of the Surgical Subspecialty Student Interest Group, the Medical Student Section of AMA, and the Florida Medical Association. In addition, she volunteered at Equal Access and the Mobile Clinic, the student-run medical clinics that serve the indigent population of Gainesville. At the conclusion of the third year of medical school, Kathryn had a cumulative G.P.A. of 3.96 and ranked in the top 5 in her class. On the basis of her outstanding scholastic performance, strong personal character, and service to the university and community, Kathryn was selected for membership in the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society.

The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Florida College of Medicine is pleased to respond to your inquiry. Our fully accredited four-year residency program emphasizes a balanced educational approach stressing clinical medicine, teaching, research, and clinical resource management. In the world of rapidly evolving health care reform, we are committed to maintaining our academic vision while responding to the market forces of managed care. Our academic vision focuses on preparing our residents for postgraduate careers as specialists in obstetrics and gynecology or as subspecialists in Maternal-Fetal Medicine, Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility, Gynecologic Oncology, or Urogynecology. This preparation is global and predicated on the premise that our specialty is uniquely capable of providing a continuum of health care to women, whether it be the primary care management of hypertension or the advanced surgical management of genital prolapse.

The purpose of this four-year training program is to educate the resident in the entire breadth of the discipline of obstetrics and gynecology and to foster a lifelong commitment to the promotion of women's health care. The resident will acquire cognitive knowledge, technical skills, and interpersonal skills through didactic lectures, small group conferences, audiovisual media, individual instruction, independent reading, and direct patient care. Upon successful completion of the training program, the resident will be fully prepared for the independent practice of obstetrics and gynecology or for further training in a subspecialty discipline. The department is firmly committed to helping each resident recognize his/her full academic, clinical, and personal potential within an intellectually stimulating and emotionally supportive environment.
