Dr. Moawad is fellowship-trained in Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery at Magee-Womens Hospital of the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. He has extensive training in the state-of-the-art management of abnormal bleeding, fibroids, ovarian pathology, chronic pelvic pain and endometriosis. During his fellowship, he achieved a Masters in Clinical Research from the University Of Pittsburgh School Of Medicine. Prior to his fellowship, Dr. Moawad completed his residency training in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University Hospitals of Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio. He graduated from Cairo University School of Medicine and completed a residency in Family Medicine in Toledo, Ohio, before pursuing his career in advanced gynecologic surgery.

Dr. Moawad’s professional passions revolve around the introduction and advancement of minimally-invasive surgical options for women, as well as resident education in laparoscopic surgery. His research interests are focused on endometriosis, new surgical techniques and laparoscopic instrumentation. He has lectured at regional and national meetings, and taught at surgical workshops. Dr. Moawad’s passion for the advancement of surgical care for women has led him to publish in several reputable medical and surgical journals, including the American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology, the Journal of Minimally-invasive Gynecology, the Journal of the Society of Laparoendoscopic Surgeons, the Journal of Ultrasound in Medicine and the Journal of Pediatric and Adolescent Gynecology.

Dr. Moawad is a Fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) and is an active member of several national organizations such as the American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopists (AAGL), the American Society of Reproductive Medicine and Society of Reproductive Surgeons (ASRM/SRS) and the Society for Clinical and Translational Science (SCTS).

Among Dr. Moawad’s accolades are the prestigious “Special Excellence in Gynecologic Endoscopy” award through the American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopists and the “Wolf Utian Surgical Excellence” award from the University Hospitals Case Medical Center.  In October 2012 he also achieved another level of excellence when, through the efforts of Dr. Moawad and his team, UF Health&Shands earned the designation as an AAGL Center of Exellence in Minimally Invasive Gynecology (COEMIG).
