Cindy Nelly is an Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner and Certified Nurse-Midwife. She works in the UF Health Labor and Delivery unit providing care for women in triage, labor, and postpartum and in the UF Health Women’s Center at Shands Medical Plaza to provide prenatal and postpartum care to women with high-risk pregnancies, and in the Maternity and Infant Care Project (MIC) to provide high-quality prenatal care to the underserved women in our region. The women receive their prenatal and post-partum care in their communities and then deliver their babies at UF Health Shands Hospital, Gainesville.
As a midwife, Cindy is dedicated to providing care to women. She feels it is an honor to work in partnership with women and their families. She believes it is important for midwives and physicians to work together to promote a patient centered and holistic model of maternal infant care.
She graduated from the University of Florida with a Master’s degree in Midwifery, and received her Bachelor’s degree in Nursing from the University of Central Florida.
Cindy’s clinical experience has been diverse. She was a labor and delivery nurse for 12 years working in a multitude of settings including birth centers, homebirths, and at UF Health Shands Hospital. Her experience led her to advance her degree. Ms. Nelly went on to obtain her midwifery degree and serve as coordinator for international maternal child healthcare projects in Africa and South America. She most recently has been working with Syrian refugees in Turkey and Lebanon. She is also a disaster relief first responder.
Cindy was born and raised in Maine and she and her husband have four children.
