Gena “Chris” Rhoden, ARNP

Certified Nurse Midwife, Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner
Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology
University of Florida

Gena “Chris” Rhoden, CNM, ARNP works in our Medical Plaza and Springhill offices.  She sees GYN patients as well as OB patients.  She is a native of Gainesville, and worked for Shands Healthcare for more than 30 years.  She became an RN in 1992, and immediately began her career with maternal/child nursing.  After two years she transferred to Shands AGH Labor and Delivery, and worked there 17 years as a charge nurse and clinical coordinator of Labor and Delivery.  In 2008, she obtained her Master’s Degree in Nursing with a specialization in Nurse Midwifery, and advanced her license to an ARNP.

She has practiced her midwifery and GYN skills here in the area since that time, delivering over 200 babies during her Midwifery career, not to mention the ones she has caught for the OB/GYN physicians when she was an RN in Labor/Delivery.  She has over 23 years of experience in the field of women’s health and obstetrical care.  She currently is also coordinating our high-risk GYN clinic at the Medical Plaza by providing assistance to the physicians.  Her expertise has always been recognized by many of the long-term OB/GYN physicians here in Gainesville, who have given her excellent recommendations.  She enjoys her job and looks forward to meeting each patient and helping them through  whatever life throws at them, whether it’s having a new baby, needing contraception, hormone replacement, or anything that comes up as a GYN problem.

In her spare time, she likes to be with her children (6 of them) and grandchildren (10 of them).  In fact, two of those grandchildren she delivered herself!  It’s a very special moment when a mother has the opportunity to deliver her own daughter’s babies.  Her own children are grown now, but that doesn’t stop her from playing with their babies and enjoying time with her now older children.
